Abstract
⺠Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and supportive counseling for acute stress were tested. ⺠Both interventions reduced posttraumatic stress and depression symptoms. ⺠There was no significant difference between the two treatments but effect sizes favored CPT. ⺠Cognitive processing therapy can be tolerated by recent survivors of assault.
