Abstract
⺠Approximately half of the sex offenders has a history of substance abuse. ⺠A quarter to half of the sex offenders has a history of alcohol misuse. ⺠One fifth to a quarter of the sex offenders has a history of drug misuse. ⺠Approximately a quarter to half of the sex offenders was intoxicated at the time of the offense. ⺠These figures suggest that there is a clear need for diagnosing substance abuse in sex offenders.
