Abstract
Psychological and psychopathological factors often participate in painful syndromes. Using the notion of somatoform disorder in pain consultation requires a specific approach. Somatoform disorders must be placed in the historical context and in consideration of the many different nosographic systems employed. Diagnosis of somatoform disorders should lead to better management of these patients by avoiding the specific risks of this type of disorder.
