Abstract
The contribution of Georges Lanteri-Laura to the history of neurology and psychiatry is examined. Lantéri-Laura's description of Gall's principle of the respective independence of mental faculties merges with modern conceptions of cognitive modules. This description, however, does not hold for psychiatric symptoms. Further notions of integration and dynamic networks need to be introduced and tested, before a true organicist theory of psychiatry can be built.
