Abstract
► The effect of unconscious thought on intrusive and sequence memory was tested. ► Participants were shown a distressing film and the assigned to a thought condition. ► Unconscious thought reduced intrusions compared to conscious thought or distraction. ► Conscious thought increased intrusion newness and arousal. ► Thought condition had no effect on sequence memory.
