Abstract
⺠The effect of unconscious thought on intrusive and sequence memory was tested. ⺠Participants were shown a distressing film and the assigned to a thought condition. ⺠Unconscious thought reduced intrusions compared to conscious thought or distraction. ⺠Conscious thought increased intrusion newness and arousal. ⺠Thought condition had no effect on sequence memory.
