► Explored imagery's impact on social problem-solving (SPS) across levels of dysphoria. ► Dysphoric participants rated their solutions as less effective than non-dysphorics. ► Imagery did not impact SPS skill/ perceived effectiveness across dysphoria levels. ► Utilizing imagery increased overgeneral autobiographical memory (ABM) retrieval. ► Level of dysphoria influenced perceived helpfulness of specific ABMs in SPS.
