Investigating the inner speech of people who stutter: Evidence for (and against) the Covert Repair Hypothesis

▶ PWS and controls recited tonguetwisters and self-reported their errors. ▶ The PWS group self-reported significantly more errors in inner and overt speech. ▶ The accuracy of overt self-reporting was similar in both participant groups. ▶ Inner-speech error rates were not correlated to stuttering-like disfluency rates.
