Abstract
⺠We examined the role of cause and severity in perceptions of hair loss. ⺠Hairpulling was rated more negatively than a non-explanation. ⺠Severe hair loss and hairpulling were each associated with more negative perceptions. ⺠When hair loss was minimal or moderate, hairpulling was perceived most negatively. ⺠When loss was severe, hairpulling and non-explanations were rated more negatively.
