Abstract
► We investigate the encoding of vertical, horizontal and diagonal configurations. ► Recall of vertical symmetry is unaffected by secondary tasks. ► Horizontal and diagonal symmetry is disrupted by visuospatial and executive tasks. ► Low-span participants do not show an advantage of horizontal and diagonal symmetry. ► Horizontal and diagonal symmetry require active binding processes.
