Abstract
► It is not known how aversive conditioning alters the percept of the conditioned stimulus itself. ► Aversive conditioning of an odor increased its absolute sensitivity with 20% in a transient manner. ► This significant sensory augmentation appeared without conscious awareness. ► These results provide a framework for understanding sensory mechanisms in anxiety disorders.
