Abstract
⺠Reciprocal competition was observed between Pavlovian and instrumental fear learning. ⺠A Pavlovian safety cue blocked instrumental avoidance learning, and vice versa. ⺠The results suggest a common system for Pavlovian and instrumental learning. ⺠Such a system may correspond to external and internal attribution formation.
