Abstract
► Positive stimuli elicit more smiling activity when virtual humans are present in the virtual environment. ► Pleasantness ratings of stimuli are unaffected by the presence of virtual humans. ► Findings suggest that the perceived presence of virtual humans may lead to less inhibited expressions of affect.
