► Threat accelerates or decelerates P100 VEP latency in low and high anxious subjects respectively. ► Threat worsens gaze fixation especially in high anxious subjects in the absence of a fixation stimulus. ► The effects of trait anxiety extend to perceptual and sensorimotor processes.
