Abstract
Autonomic regulation was impaired in 62% of patients with a somatization disorder. Severity of clinical symptoms measured by psychometric instruments did not preclude autonomic function impairment. Accordingly, autonomic dysfunction may constitute an independent somatic factor in this patient group.
