Abstract
► We show the distinctive features of chimpanzees and humans with respect to self-monitoring. ► Chimpanzees rely primarily on conceptual goal representations rather than on motor kinematics. ► Humans integrate both dimensions of information for purposes of self-monitoring. ► Humans may have evolved a more flexible way to monitor implicit motor information.
