Abstract
⺠Beliefs about contour connectedness did not alter illusory contour formation. ⺠Relatable configurations (Kanizsa shapes) were easier to distinguish when regarded as unitary objects. ⺠Non-relatable configurations were not easier to distinguish when regarded as unitary. ⺠Illusory contour formation is automatic and dissociable from Kanizsa shape discrimination.
