Abstract
⺠We examine how unconscious and conscious knowledge develop during concept learning. ⺠On one class of theories, conscious knowledge comes first and is proceduralized. ⺠On another class, unconscious knowledge comes first and becomes explicated. ⺠Consciousness was estimated with subjective measures based on confidence ratings. ⺠Unconsciousness decreased and consciousness increased with time, supporting the latter theories.
