Abstract
⺠We study real-time comprehension difficulty in Russian relative clauses. ⺠Our work helps disentangle predictions of memory- and expectation-based theories. ⺠At relative-clause verbs, processing difficulty matches memory-based predictions. ⺠At relative-clause onsets, difficulty matches expectation-based predictions. ⺠Thus key insights from memory- and expectation-based theories must be integrated.
