Abstract
⺠We investigated the nature of associative information in episodic memory. ⺠Pairs were rearranged within and across pair-types in a list discrimination design. ⺠Rearranging pairs within, but not across, pair-type influenced cued recall performance. ⺠Manipulating pair-type did not influence single item recognition performance. ⺠Distinct associative representations are needed to explain the data.
