Abstract
⺠We conducted four picture-word interference tasks. ⺠Naming was faster and there were fewer distractor naming errors with a pseudoword distractor compared to a word distractor. ⺠However, when picture naming trials were intermixed with pseudoword trials, these results reversed. ⺠These findings highlight the role of the verbal self-monitor in lexical selection.
