Abstract
⺠We study sociolinguistic variation at the phonological level in British Sign Language. ⺠Of the linguistic factors, the surrounding phonological environment is most important. ⺠Of all the social factors considered, only region is important. ⺠The orientation of pointing signs is constrained by grammatical function.
