Abstract
► Harrisian critique of the ontology of language underlying the notion of 'supervernaculars'. ► Concept of 'supervernaculars' based on an artefactual view of language and a fixed-code semantics. ► I question rule- and system-based views of language as affirmed by ethnomethodologically inspired sociolinguistic theory. ► Orthodox linguistics cannot adequately explain linguistic diversity seen in modern digital literacy practices.
