Abstract
⺠Anxiety disorders have a 1-year prevalence of 14% and affect over 69 million people in the EU. ⺠They are distressing, impairing and costly and represent a major public health issue. ⺠There is much scope for improved recognition and treatment of anxiety disorders. ⺠Uncertain causes of anxiety disorders hinder the development of refined treatments. ⺠There is a need for research in more widely representative patient groups.
