Abstract
► Classical toxins, radiation and drugs of abuse induce conditioned taste aversions. ► Ability of rewarding drugs to produce taste aversions is no paradox. ► Drugs of abuse produce opposing motivational effects. ► Drug reward and drug aversion are mediated by independent mechanisms. ► Both drug reward and drug aversion play a role in drug self-administration.
