Abstract
⺠Smooth pursuit eye movements stabilize the image of a moving object on the retina. ⺠Visual areas MT/MST integrate retinal and extra-retinal signals during pursuit. ⺠The visual system compensates for the retinal motion component caused by pursuit. ⺠Pursuit compensation is incomplete, resulting in illusory perception of motion. ⺠In schizophrenia, pursuit-related retinal motion is misattributed to external sources.
