Abstract
ⶠDopamine neurons are sensitive to biological programming during development. ⶠThese changes are evolutionary adaptations to indicators of adversity. ⶠBoth hypo- and hyper-dopaminergic phenotypes emerge. ⶠDirectionality of change is proposed to relate to severity and chronicity of insult. ⶠThese changes can confer vulnerability for psychopathology.
