Abstract
► Dichotic listening (DL) cannot distinguish left- from right-handers. ► We tested left- and right speech dominant left-handers and left-dominant right-handers. ► The left or right ear advantage in the DL task was determined by speech dominance. ► Previous DL results can be better explained by speech dominance than handedness. ► At the individual level, DL revealed more individual variability than speech in fMRI.
