Abstract
⺠Familiarity and recollection were matched for memory strength in two experiments. ⺠Familiarity and recollection produced contrasting fixation and pupil patterns. ⺠The hippocampus selectively responded to recollections. ⺠Perirhinal cortex selectively responded to strong familiarity. ⺠Dorsomedial thalamus-familiarity; Ventrolateral/anterior thalamus-recollection.
