Abstract
► We investigate whether amusic individuals can form melodic pitch expectations. ► We use an implicit and explicit version of a melodic priming task. ► Amusics form expectations in the implicit task. ► Amusics are impaired relative to controls on the explicit task. ► Conscious access to expectations may explain differences in musical ability.
