► Noise exclusion and sensory explanations of dyslexia were examined. ► Dyslexia group had a processing advantage for high contrast motion signals. ► Dyslexia group had a processing disadvantage for low contrast motion signals. ► In low contrast condition dyslexics used to cue to improve coherence thresholds. ► Noise exclusion in dyslexia consequence of sensory deficit.
