Abstract
⺠Processing nonsense speech is indexed by the Phonological Mapping Negativity (PMN). ⺠PMN is independent of phonologic relatedness between the target and expected sound. ⺠PMN is larger over frontal-central regions and is symmetrical over the hemispheres. ⺠Response accuracy is greater the more the target sound violates the expected one. ⺠Reaction time is faster the more the target sound violates the expected one.
