Abstract
⺠We investigate how listeners process accents in referential communication with ERPs. ⺠Accents signal contrasts with linguistic (utterance) or visual (picture) contexts. ⺠Missing accents lead to processing difficulties, but superfluous accents do not. ⺠Linguistic contexts more strongly affect accent interpretation than visual contexts.
