Abstract
⺠We review our neural theory of visual attention and short-term memory (NTVA). ⺠In NTVA, filtering changes the number of cortical neurons in which an object is represented. ⺠Pigeonholing scales the activation in neurons coding a particular feature. ⺠By filtering and pigeonholing important objects and features are selected for VSTM. ⺠VSTM is a feedback mechanism that sustains the activity of selected representations.
