Abstract
⺠Individual differences in verbal short-term memory are investigated using neuroimaging. ⺠Better nonword repeaters have higher BOLD responses during stimulus encoding. ⺠Poorer nonword repeaters show greater BOLD responses during stimulus recognition. ⺠Efficient early allocation of neural resources explains individual differences in VSTM.
