Abstract
⺠Young and older adults constructed and elaborated past and future autobiographical events during an fMRI scanning session. ⺠Both age groups engaged a similar set of regions during the autobiographical tasks relative to the control task. ⺠There was an age-related reduction in activity during construction, in regions such as the medial temporal lobes. ⺠Later during elaboration, older adults showed increased recruitment of lateral and medial temporal regions relative to younger adults.
