Abstract
▶ We tested recognition of emotion in voices and self-reported anxiety after temporal lobe lesion. ▶ Recognition of fear and surprise was impaired after unilateral amygdala lesion. ▶ The same patients appeared to be less anxious than control participants. ▶ The co-occurrence of these results is considered in the light of recent data. ▶ This finding provides support for a neurobiological basis of mood changes in patients.
