Abstract
⺠We propose and test a psychological distance model of metaphor use. ⺠We propose people rely more on metaphors to process concepts that are psychologically distant. ⺠Increasing temporal distance increases the metaphor effect on people's attitude toward immigration policy. ⺠Increasing spatial distance increases the metaphor effect on people's forecasts of stock market performance.
