Abstract
► We examine whether apparent stereotypicality of a target and perspective taking influence stereotyping. ► Perspective taking with a stereotype-consistent target increased stereotyping. ► Perspective taking with an ambiguous target decreased stereotyping. ► These effects occurred for elderly and overweight targets.
