Abstract
⺠Examined the effects of target race (Black/White) on impressions and communications. ⺠Internal motivation to respond without prejudice (IMS) moderated race effects. ⺠Those low in IMS showed evidence of race-based shifting standards in judgment and memory. ⺠Positive communications about Black targets predicted increased racism.
