Abstract
⺠The impact of increased funding supply or improved market demand on vaccine innovation is mediated by problem solving processes. ⺠These problem solving processes typically involve cumulative learning across a series of increasingly complex models. ⺠When experimental models are missing additional co-ordination may be needed to integrate fragmented research findings. ⺠Managed co-ordination rather than researcher driven enquiry drove the successful development of poliomyelitis vaccines.
