Abstract
⺠Explores how resource allocation groups manage the tension between fundamental NHS values and affordability of health care. ⺠Uses linguistic ethnography to examine the discursive practices of Primary Care Trust Individual Funding Request panels. ⺠Considers affordability as a social accomplishment, demonstrating the rhetorical work in achieving decision legitimacy.
