Abstract
► In rural Mozambique, there are no overall mortality differences between children of migrant and non-migrant fathers. ► Mortality differences appear when considering perceived success of migration. ► Children of unsuccessful migrants have the highest mortality. ► Community factors do not explain or moderate these associations. ► Degree of success of labor migration needs to be considered when examining the consequences of migration for households.
