Abstract
⺠Mortality risk after age 50 among males raised in rural areas was associated with family wealth in childhood. ⺠Shared frailty among brothers as well as sample selection significantly affected the estimation of adult mortality risk among males. ⺠This study provides evidence that the impact of early life conditions on later life mortality may often be underestimated.
