Abstract
⺠Presents a critical discourse analysis of acceptance of dying in the West as portrayed in the palliative care literature. ⺠Acceptance was a goal of patient care, a unifying ideology for health care workers, and a facilitator for care provision. ⺠This discourse may represent a productive power that encourages patients and families to participate in a certain way to die.
