Abstract
▸ Canadian residential careworkers are 6 times more likely to report daily physical violence than Scandinavian careworkers. ▸ Structural violence is used as a frame to explore the role of social and institutional factors in causing violence. ▸ Rates of violence appear to be related to modifiable structural factors (e.g., workload, autonomy, status, staffing). ▸ The low quality working conditions experienced by Canadian careworkers constitute a form of structural violence.
