Abstract
► This is a longitudinal examination of the impact of caregiving using perceived stress and two biomarkers of stress in Kenyan Luo elders. ► Findings demonstrate that cultural context is important in examining the impact of caregiving on stress. ► Caregiving stress is function of gender and differential appraisal within a cultural context. ► This study contributes to knowledge about aging outside the developed world and in the context of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
