Abstract
⺠Family instability related to worse health for children born to coresident parents. ⺠Total number, but not timing, of family transitions related to child health. ⺠Divorce is no worse for child health than the dissolution of a cohabiting union. ⺠Potential mechanisms predict child health but do not explain instability effects. ⺠Limited support for hypothesis that child health causes family instability.
