Abstract
► This paper challenges the link between “obesogenic environments” and obesity among Canadian teenagers. ► We found no direct link between fast food restaurants and teen's consumption of fast food in urban and rural environments. ► Teenagers of all social classes avoided fast food due to health concerns. ► Teenagers of all classes and in both urban and rural areas made moralistic judgments about fast food consumption. ► Fast food avoidance was an important facet through which teens make themselves as “moral subjects” through healthy eating.
