Abstract
⺠Patients and general public differ in their preferences when prioritizing wait-listed patients for a surgical intervention. ⺠There is empirical evidence on patients' self-interested preferences. ⺠Patient's tend to assign higher priority to the hypothetical scenarios that more closely match their own situation. ⺠This preference structure increases patients' likelihood of providing inconsistent or “irrational” rankings.
