Abstract
⺠Alcohol consumption is a key risk factor for both fatal and non-fatal violence against women. ⺠Alcohol control policies (e.g., alcohol excise taxes) reduce alcohol consumption. ⺠Alcohol consumption is positively related to violence against women. ⺠Alcohol taxes, however, are not effective at reducing the most severe form of violence against women - femicide. ⺠Policy makers may need alternative policy levers to reduce the most severe form of violence against women.
